Did you know that over 17% of adults in Calaveras County struggle with low literacy? It is never too late to learn to read or write.

We're here to help! Free of charge!

We provide free, one-on-one, in-person  tutoring for adults who: 

  • Are 16 and older
  • Are not currently enrolled in another education program
  • Want to improve reading and writing skills
  • Complete a short assessment

Learn With Us

We provide free, one-on-one, in-person tutoring for adults who:

You’ll be paired with a trained volunteer tutor for personalized, learner-driven sessions.

What to Expect:

  • Meet 1–2 times per week
  • Sessions last about 1 hour 
  • Held at participating library branches

We offer free in-person GED support with a tutor.
   - One-on-one guidance tailored to your needs 
   - Help build skills in tested subjects 
   - Computer-based GED practice tests available at the library 
   - Referrals to official testing locations

Build confidence using computers and technology in everyday life.
   - Learn basic computer skills 
   - Use Microsoft Office programs 
   - Search the internet effectively

Our Family Literacy program supports adult learners and the children in their lives.

To participate, the parent or caregiver must be (or become) an adult literacy learner in the Calaveras County Literacy Program.

What we offer:

   - Family-friendly literacy events 
   - Free books to build your home library 
   - Activities for all ages that combine literacy and fun 
   - Resources to support learning at home

We are working to expand literacy services to all Calaveras County library branches.

Availability depends on tutor capacity and scheduling.

   - Copperopolis

   - Valley Springs
   - West Point
